The NFP Method

If you are using Lady Cycle for contraception or conception, you need to enter the following data:

Basal body temperature: waking temperature

Cervical mucus: appearance and sensation

Alternatively to cervical mucus observations, you can also assess cervix characteristics (position, opening, firmness). You do not need to enter both mucus and cervix characteristics. One of the two observations is sufficient in combiation with BBT.

You can learn all you need about BBT and cervical mucus observations by clicking on the respective info buttons in the entry form of the app.

You can use mechanical or digital thermometers. What is important is that it displays 2 digits after the decimal point.

Please note that temperature values of different thermometers cannot be compared. For this reason, you should only change your thermometer at the beginning of a new cycle and not in the middle of it.

Please change your thermometer every year! It becomes less reliable after that point in time.
Only rectal, oral and vaginal measurements can be recommended. Rectal measurements are the least, oral measurements the most affected by disturbance factors.

Please do not measure your temperature on your skin or in your ear. These places are not reliable enough to be used to determine your fertile days.
Lady Cycle makes no compromises with regard to efficacy and use-effectiveness. We only implemented the safest natural family planning available, a special variant of the symptothermal method developed by an international group of scientists in Europe.

This method combines your basal body temperature entries with your cervical mucus entries or with your cervix characteristics to determine your fertility state. If based on cervical mucus or cervix characteristics you could still be fertile, Lady Cycle will still show you as fertile.

Only the combination of these two measures make the method in Lady Cycle so safe and accurate!

You can also determine the end of the fertile period manually, if you would like to use a different method (see corresponding question in the section Android App).
Lady Cycle determines your cervical mucus quality automatically based on your entries. You simply have to describe what you feel at your introitus vaginae and what the mucus looks like, if there is any.

If you click on the info buttons within the Lady Cycle form you can learn all you need to know to correctly assess your mucus quality. Activate or deactivate the info buttons by clicking on the three dots on the top right in the entry form and then on toggle.
The quality of the cervical mucus varies across the female cyce. The best cervical mucus quality refers to the quality that is observed during the most fertile period. These are the days right before and on the day of ovulation. On these days, the hormone estrogen is released more strongly. This leads to the mucus getting more transparent and stretchy.
Seminal fluid can look very similar to cervical mucus of best quality. However, it is thinner and differs from mucus by its specific smell. This should allow to distinguish the two fluids well. However, to be safe, it is recommended to evaluate mucus before sexual intercourse or 3 to 4 hours afterwards.

Yes, just click on the three dots on the top right of the app and toggle. This will make them disappear.
This should not happen. Please make sure to update to the latest Lady Cycle version always. If you run into this problem, there might be a problem with your database. Please contact us within the app so that we can help.
Your cycle regularity is determined via the standard deviation of your cycle duration. The smaller this value, the more regular is your cycle duration. The longer it is, the less regular.

The more cycles you enter into Lady Cycle the more reliable the computation of this number will become.

The Data Management

Simply jump to that day by clicking on the date in the entry form. Then make any changes you'd like and click on ok (the tick mark on the bottom right) to safe your changes.
Go to the form (swipe to the left).

Then change the date to the earliest date of your cycles. Enter the information you'd like. After you are finished filling out the form for this day, don't confirm with the ok tick mark on the right, as you usually would, but click on the arrow that points to the right (on the left hand side). Then continue with the entry for the following day (its date will automatically show and you only have to adjust the temperature and cervix quality assessment).

After you are done entering all dates you want to enter, save your last entry by clicking on the ok tick mark on the right hand side.
Yes!

Simply click on the three dots on the top right, then on export, csv to SD card or csv by email. You can also save your csv onto any cloud of your choice. Afterwards you can look at your data conveniently with a text editor or Excel on your computer.

Please be aware that CVS exports do not serve as a backup of your data. Please select the database backup option (by email or onto your phone / SD) to back up your data.

We recommend regular backups to your phone. You can activate this option by clicking on "automated backup" in the settings (configuration wheel).
Simply click on the three dots on the top right and then request PDF report. You will get your report within a few minutes by email.

Please make sure to have entered your correct email address in the Lady Cycle settings (no spaces).

6.) Now your data should have been properly loaded to Lady Cycle on your new phone. You simply have to update your personal settings again (configuration wheel).

By default, Lady Cycle does not sync your data automatically with a cloud server. To us your privacy is very important and this is why we believe that you should have full control over what happens with your data. If however, you would like to sync your data with your partner or a second phone via a cloud solution that you trust, here is how you can do it:

1. You and your partner both need a dropbox account (or other cloud) with a shared folder between you (e.g. you can create a folder ladycyclesync and then share it with your partner) and then the dropbox app on your phone and the phone of your partner.

2. Make sure that you and your partner have the latest Lady Cycle version installed.

3. You both need a dropbox account (or other cloud of your trust) with a shared folder between you (e.g. you can create a folder ladycyclesync and then share it with your partner) and then the dropbox app on your phone and the phone of your partner.

4. On your phone (main device)
a) Start Lady Cycle and click on the configuration wheel and then make sure that the option “automated backup” is activated. This option automatically creates a backup of your data to the ladycycledata/auto folder on your device.
b) Download the app dropsync (or another app that allows synchronizing data from one app with another)
c) Start dropsync and configure it in such a way that the folder /storage/emulated/0/ladycycledata/current (the path may be slightly different depending on your device, you need the folder that contains the file “current-LadyCycle.db”) is synchronized with the folder in your dropbox that you are sharing with your partner.
d) Make sure that you select the option “uploads only” on your device for the dropsync method. This way you can prevent that your partner by mistake modifies your Lady Cycle database.

5. On his device (your second device)
a) Start Lady Cycle and click on the configuration wheel. Make sure that the option “automated import” is activated. This option allows Lady Cycle to import the latest data at every app start.
b) Click on the three dots on the top right on the Lady Cycle start page, then on import, select data for automated import.
c) Then please select the dropbox folder that you are sharing with your partner and select the file “current-LadyCycle.db”

6. Then restart Lady Cycle on both of your phones and your data should automatically have synced with your partners phone.

The Cycle Basics

Your cycle starts with the first day of your period bleeding. Your cycle ends with the last day prior to your next period bleeding.

The periode bleeding is that bleeding that you usually observe during this time of your cycle and is of the to expected strength. Many women show a light, often reddish or brownish bleeding right prior to the period bleeding. This type of bleeding is called spotting and does not yet count as your periode bleeding.
The duration of the female cycle is very variable. It varies from woman to woman. It varies within each woman during a particular time frame and it varies with age.

A variable cycle duration within the same time frame within the same woman can be explained by natural fluctuations but also be associated to situative circumstances such as physical or psychological stressors.

Changes with age are characterized by most regular cycle durations between 25 and 40 years, and least regular cycle durations at the very beginning and end of the fertile life period.

During puberty, cycles are often longer, cycles prior to menopause are often shorter compared to other time periods within the female fertile period.
